About the course

This e-course provides a comprehensive foundation in the principles of inclusive business and its critical role in fostering sustainable land investments. This e-course covers key aspects of inclusive business models, legal frameworks, and effective stakeholder engagement strategies.

One of the key challenges in land investments is the exclusion of local communities from decision-making—inclusive businesses address this by embedding local participation and integrating communities into value chains from the outset.

By the end of the course, learners will have the tools to navigate the complexities of sustainable land investment processes, laying the groundwork for achieving positive outcomes for all stakeholders involved. Learners will be equipped with essential Knowledge for establishing and maintaining equitable partnerships, focusing on negotiation strategies and fostering collaboration for mutually beneficial outcomes.

Target Audience

This course is designed for practitioners and leaders working in forestry and agriculture units or departments. Specifically, this course is for:

  • Private sector professionals working with community enterprises, cooperatives, smallholder out-growers
  • Government officials implementing trade and investment regulations, in forest and agricultural sectors,
  • Civil society organizations supporting community and private sector collaborations,
  • Leaders of communities currently or likely to be affected by external land investments and trade, and
  • Academics and students interested in responsible and inclusive land investment and trade.

Partnering for Progress: Inclusive Land Investment in Smallholder Success

This e-course was made possible through the generous support of the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) as the core donor of RECOFTC and through the Transformative Land Investment (TLI) project. Also funded by SDC, TLI is run by a consortium consisting of the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), RECOFTC, the Dutch Development Agency (SNV) and Land Equity International. It aims to enhance land and ecosystem health, effectively promote transformative land investment and bring about equitable and gender transformative improvements in food and tenure security, livelihoods and resilience.
